Digi Pack
Hello all,
Now you have finished your wonderful short films and music videos you must produce one or more of the following:
*A magazine advert
*A film poster
*A website page
*A DVD cover
If you could produce a film poster by the Film Festival on Wednesday that would be superb!
Keep working hard,
Ms R

Inappropriate material
Year 12,
Unfortunately some students, outside of school, have shot some inappropriate material. Please do not do this. It is a sure way to get yourselves kicked off of the course or excluded from school.
If you see any inappropriate material being shot or edited outside of school e.g. on Facebook or Youtube, please report it immediately.
All groups must now submit a Risk Assessment form before continuing with their projects.

AS into A2 Summer Task
AS into A2 Media Studies Summer Term Task
Your task
In a group, plan, film and edit a short film.
Why you’re doing this
Next year, 50% of your grade will come from your production which is likely to be a short film or music promo package. By completing this mini film project you will learn how to use or practise with the cameras, transfer your footage to the editing system, edit it and produce it. You will also learn about timekeeping, planning and working as part of a team. Hopefully this activity will also give you an opportunity to find out who you work best with.
As you all produced the Music Magazine/Print Portfolio for AS we will work on the basis that everyone is a beginner in film production therefore the opening lesson will commence with familiarisation with the equipment. You will then divide into groups of 3 or 4 to complete the task.
Examples of previous films can be found in the Summer Task Folder in Media on the HLP.
The requirements:
• Film should be 1-2 minutes in length
• The task should be started with some research into similar short films either those linked from the HLP above, Channel 4 or BBC or Screenonline.
• Your film must depict one of the following emotions: anger, frustration, joy, sadness, fear, anticipation or another agreed idea.
• It must be planned, scripted and storyboarded.
• examples of other short films
• It must use music – as performance or soundtrack.
• It must have titles or captions
• It must have at least one spoken or sung element
• It must include at least an extreme close up, a close up, a mid-shot, a long shot, a tracking shot, a range of angles, and also show different pace of camera movement, varied transitions and edits.
• Mise en scene must be organised, planned and appropriate.
• A Blog for the task should be set up and maintained throughout the task.
Those All Important Rules and Regulations
You must attend and register in all timetabled lessons in V5, but during many of those lessons you will be able to work on the film in the school grounds, always making sure that you are mindful of other school activities. You should also get into the habit of working outside of lessons on the film; otherwise you won’t finish on time! Also remember you need to book the cameras, tripods, editing equipment etc. in advance. You are timetabled for 4 sessions per week and you should aim to complete the filming and editing by Friday, 2nd July ready for viewing presentations the following week.

Evaluation Mark Scheme

Afternoon all lovely Media Students,
On this post you can see the evaluation mark scheme that will be used to assess your work. Make sure you take on board the ideas Miss Payne gave you in the lesson today and ensure that your work is heading towards the level 4 row!
You need to be uploading your evaluation posts now. Make sure you:
*Make sure your name is clearly on each of your posts
*Title your posts and make it clear what question you are answering
*Use podcasts, screen grabs, weblinks, links to your work on your blog and slideshare to ensure you are using all of the communication tools available to you.
Work hard,
Ms R
p.s. just in case you had forgotten the deadline for all work is the 31st March!

Updated Deadlines
Afternoon all,
Just to re-iterate what I said in the lesson today. Your deadlines are:
31st March for your final draft of your product
31st March for your final post on your blog for your evaluation
With your final draft of your product you must also hand in a copy of your prelim task. This MUST be handed in otherwise you will lose 15 marks.
Start your evaluation over the weekend. Make sure this is uploaded over time in lots of different posts. Make sure in your evaluation you have links, screen grabs, podcast, slide share, images of real media and your media product.
If you do all of this you will make yourself and me a very happy bunny.

Evaluation Examples

It should sound something like this:
Bauer Media Group would probably distribute my music magazine as this institution also distributes Kerrang! and Q magazine. These magazines, Kerrang! and Q are similar to my own as they both started with a thrash and glam metal focus (http://www.kerrang.com/wheretostartwith/artists/alice_in_chains), but have developed to appeal to a more broad audience; widening their music spectrum to include emo and metalcore. Kerrang! now specialises in rock music Q magazine specialises in Indie, Rock and Alternative music as does my magazine.
The brands owned by Bauer are usually mid-market niche magazines...
Evaluation Questions
In the evaluation the following questions must be answered:
· In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
· How does your media product represent particular social groups?
· What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
· Who would be the audience for your media product?
· How did you attract/address your audience?
· What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
· Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Hello you lot,
Below are the markschemes, which I and Ms Payne will be using to mark your music magazines thus far!

Holiday Homework

Morning all,
Hope you are all enjoying your half-term break!
To make up for lost time due to the snow you really must use some of your holiday to work on your Media coursework.
Please make sure that you have completed up to and including: draft designs, mock ups, photos, and writing copy by Monday 22nd Feb. This will allow you to work on construction examples and constructing your final product in the first week back.
Remember the deadlines:
8th March 2010-all construction work should be finished and ready to hand in for feedback.
29th March 2010-all work, including evaluation, should be completed and handed in.
Meet up, grab a camera, some coffee, pens and paper and get working!
Also, when taking photos, please take time to FRAME them properly. Some of the photos you are uploading onto your blogs have heads and limbs chopped off! Ouch!
